Hamilton's economically challenged will be better dressed and visible thanks to the donation of 30 pairs of used overalls last week.

The donation, thanks to Hamilton firm Apparelmaster, is provided to those people turning up to the regular community dinner offered by the Gateway Church.

Gateway property manager and dinner cook Peter Simmons said the overalls would be appreciated and distributed among the about 200 people who turn up to the Wednesday meal - one of daily free meals provided around Hamilton for those in need.

"We always get guys asking for things like blankets."

Apparelmaster managing director Warren Massey said the company specialised in workwear rental and laundered about 15,000 overalls a week for a variety of businesses.
The used overalls, of heavy cotton and all in good condition, would normally sell for about $25 to $30 each.

He hoped the donation would encourage other businesses to help the less fortunate members of society.
