New World City Centre

Right in the heart of Dunedin City, the Centre City New World is the largest New World supermarket in the South Island. The range of goods and products are extensive, as is the floor space! A recent major upgrade of the store has given it a new lease of life and both staff and customers alike are loving the fresh, new look and feel. Centre City New World prides itself on offering New Zealand’s leading supermarket experience and with the recent renovation, the store is certainly living up to this claim.

The Butchery Department

The butchery department is a focal point within the supermarket and the butchery team prides itself on offering only the choicest cuts of meat every day. Because the butchery department has to comply with strict food hygiene guidelines from a number of parties, the area needs to not only be kept clean, but comply with numerous health and safety standards. This includes an internal audit by Foodstuffs and swab tests carried out by Dunedin City Council. Every surface, every utensil or knife, and every person within the department must comply with all standards or they could be shut down.

30 years of safety and hygiene with Preens Apparelmaster

Preens Apparelmaster provide the team at Centre City New World Butchery with a range of workplace supplies, perhaps the most important are the five staff members white coveralls. The team pride themselves on looking the part, but far more than looking like traditional butchers, these essential uniforms are vital to the smooth running of the butchery department day in and out. The cleanliness and hygiene of each coverall is fundamental to maintaining their code of compliance and the Preens Apparelmaster team ensure they are laundered to comply with all health, safety and food standards. Each member of the team has their own main set of coveralls, plus a spare set on hand at all times in case they need to change mid-shift. Preens Apparelmaster also provides the group with black trousers, a must in a butchery environment.

“Preens Apparelmaster have always made this part of our business so easy.” Brad Fridd, Butchery Manager

Another service the team at Preens Apparelmaster provide is personalised embroidery. Each pair of coveralls is specific to the staff member, meaning they only ever wear their own uniform. This creates a sense of ownership, of pride in their appearance and adds to the high level of cleanliness and safety with zero cross-contamination through clothing. Having embroidered name tags on their own uniforms also helps customers get to know their local butcher, building confidence, loyalty, and long-standing relationships.

Non-slip mats are likewise provided for the main butchery areas and in the vegetable area. Swapped out every 2-3 days, these mats help to ensure that water, dirt, and fat are not tracked out into other parts of the supermarket. They also stop trolleys tracking these substances throughout the store, which would otherwise become a hazard.
